So yeah... I was working on some complex economic problems (like i always do in my spare time...) and came across something pretty interesting. Have you ever wondered why our keyboards are the way they are? Today’s keyboards are based on a 130 year old QWERTY system. It was invented to actually slow down fast typists. The original typewriter had an alphabetical keyboard. But typists would type so fast that old typewritters would constantly jam. So a genius named C.L. Sholes tried to figure out a way to slow down typists as much as possible... The QWERTY keyboard was invented. It became the industry standard but later in the 1930's with help from the government and the Carnegie Foundation the Dvorak keyboard was invented... It was proven to be superior but never caught on. hmmm that gives me a business idea... too bad loads of people sell them already. So the debate still goes on, and recent studies say it doesn't matter what kind of keyboard you use. The economics behind QWERTY is pretty boring...you can read more about this here and here.
The way to go?!?!
Alright... so lets get back to Singapore... So I arrive at NUS and the limo lets us off at these resort vacation residences (thats what they look from the outside like atleast). This is the residence I am staying, it's called Prince Georges Park. Indeed fit for Prince George... Check out the pictures:
Check out all the nice palm trees....
The main entrance... waterfall on the left...
I wonder where the spa is?
View from outside...This is right by my window, lucky me...
So I proceed to check in, which went flawlessly and the porter (security guard) took all my bags and showed me to my room. We have these cool remote controls as keys... high-tech...
So the interior of my residence was a bit strange. It very much feels like a prision... and access to all blocks is restricted. The remote only gives you access to your floor and cluster gate. Geeze even my room location sounds like a prision... Residence 5, Block 23, Level B1, Cell G... I'm not much of a story teller but check out the pictures... My residence even has iron bars to prevent escape.
A view from inside my cell... umm trying to escape!
Washrooms in my residence. Oh boy...this is going to take a while to get used to...
I need my fibre... more on this later!
Hallway leading to my cell, notice the bars on the left... Bars everywhere... can't emphasize that enough...
My room... gets kind of sunny during the day... look even bars inside my room! There's no escape!
So all in all... not a bad residence. Anyhow... you might be wondering what's with all the Corn Bran and oatmeal? Here's some info I took out of some health article: "Dietary fibre serves as a pipe cleaner for your digestive and circulatory system. Fibre comes in two types - soluble and insoluble - and each is crucial to your diet. Insoluble fibre is digested but not absorbed. As it moves along it keeps everything else you've eaten moving along too. It keeps you colon nice and clean. Of the two types of fibre, insoluble is the easiest to find. It's found in whole grains, nuts, seeds and beans. Soluble fibre moves from the digestive system to the circulatory system, keeping bloodvessels lubed so cholestrol won't stick. Top sources include oranges, apples and oats. The higher the fibre count, the healthier the food..."
So there you have it... That's the summary of day one in Singapore. More to come later... perhaps in a few days.
*drool.. aww yeah... Roasted Turkey with Herb gravy...
I'm gonna try and gather all the Canadians in my residence and go for an old fashioned thanksgiving dinner... txt me!
